As part of the Zankel Urban Fellowship (Special Ways of Knowing: Learning with Bilingual Children with Mild Disabilities), I work in an after school program with ten 3rd and 4th grade bilingual children that are categorized with disabilities, which takes place in Dos Puentes Elementary School (M103).

As part of the project:

I explore integrating multimodality in literacy, science, and art to learn about how children can expand what counts as knowledge and learning.

Observe and teach the children, and learn from them during their regular schooling hours to deepen my knowledge of the children’s ways of learning and to facilitate bridging mediators between the after school and in school learning.

Attend weekly planning meetings to reflect on the after school lessons and classroom observations, and plan the following curriculum and/or unit of study with the co-teachers and supervisor.
